Home & School Association

Home & School AssociationSchool and families working together

The HSA at SMI is a volunteer group of parents, teachers and family members who go above and beyond just bake sales and holiday parties.  When a water main broke and flooded the building in 2010, the HSA had crews organized and working to “save our school” within minutes.  In addition, the HSA raised enough money to provide SMI with a new industrial dishwasher and floor-cleaning device.  These efforts — among others — were acknowledged by the National Catholic Education Association with a Certificate of Recognition for organizing fundraisers for the benefit of the entire school.  Through their dedication, determination and devotion, the HSA exemplifies SMI’s strong sense of community and conviction.

Mission

The SMI Home & School Association is committed to assisting our school with special events and fundraising.  We strive to enrich the school experience for students and their families by helping to fund special activities and projects, while also working to keep tuition cost affordable.

HSA in Focus

The HSA is Keeping the "focus" on Home, School and Community!

We had a fantastic Catholic Schools week with a flurry of school events and activities from a lovely Grandparents Day celebration to a school-wide door decorating contest where we celebrated, "Jesus is our light!"  Our students were so overjoyed to have been able to share their classrooms and their work with Grandparents and special family members during this beloved community event. This event not only provides SMI students the opportunity to share their hard work and school day environment with their loved ones, but also provides a glimpse into the devotion and pride that our SMI students strive for in their everyday academics, faith practice and school interactions. Just another example of the "light that shines" when Home, School and Community come together.

"Holy" Spirit

It was a sea of blue pride in the SMI gymnasium recently as the student body gathered for a Pep Rally to support Gaels basketball. In assition to NBA-style introductions of the teams and speeches by the coaches, the highly-spirited Pep Rally feaured a strictly-for-fun, girls vs. boys exhibition game. Students, teachers and parents were treated to an exuberent and entertaining game that clearly demonstarted how much hard work both teams have put into their season. The boys team had one of their biggest seasons in years, placing third in the Schenetady CYO League, while the Lady Gaels won the League with a first place finish! And by the cheers, chants and applause that rocked the gym, it was evident SMI students are proud of their Gaels!
