Going Green

Environment and technology teaching go hand in hand

St. Mary’s is eco-friendly. Every classroom has a designated recycling bin for paper, which is then sold to a company to recycle into burnable fuel. There are also depository bins for juice pouches, chip bags, glue sticks, ink cartridges, and used cell phones. All of these recyclable items generate money for our school while participating in the bigger, future picture for our world.

St. Mary’s Institute was awarded a grant in September 2010 from The Jordan Family Foundation to purchase a LED sign and solar panel system. Both the LED sign and the new solar energy system at St. Mary’s Institute provide tangible examples of advanced technology and offer unique educational opportunities that may spark interest in engineering and science amongst students. Students in our GenYes technology club are responsible for designing and transmitting content to the sign and message center.
